Mongoloid

A cultural high point of the late-seventies. Devo.
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
Happier than you and me
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
One chromosome too many
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
And he wore a hat
And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon
So that no one knew
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
His friends were unaware
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
Nobody even cared

OK - there is some deeper social message here. But where is the lead singer pants is a more pressing question.

Can you imagine now being so free from political correctness?! This song was performed, even, with the lead singer on his knees wearing a down syndrome mask. It's refresing too when you consider now that it's the same selfish pc yuppies that wold yell at you for using the term "mongoloid" that are in the 90% of perspective parents who'd abort a down syndrome baby.

But yes, the "deeper social message" was that Americans are so devolved that they never noticed he was a "mongoloid." In the early nineties I myself am guilty of not considering the kind of claustrophobic censorship pc ness would initiate. I long for the 80s!
